Rare British India – Madras Presidency Silver 1 Fanam (1764–1807 AD) – Authentic Hand-Struck Miniature Coin Ref: KM# 307 / Pridmore #19

An outstanding example of an ancient, hand-struck silver 1 Fanam, minted under the administration of the British East India Company (EIC) at the Madras Mint (Fort St. George), South India. This piece of colonial history dates to the maritime trading era between 1764 and 1807 AD.

Obverse: Displays a highly abstract, geometric representation of the Hindu deity Lord Vishnu holding ritual attributes. The design features sharp, well-preserved high-relief details.

Reverse: Features the iconic royal monogram of two interlinked letters 'C', deeply struck into the silver blank.

The silver Fanam series of Madras represents one of the most unique minting projects of the East India Company, bridging European colonial economy with traditional Indian religious iconography. Because these fractional coins are incredibly small (under 8 mm), they were easily lost and heavily circulated in the bustling ports
