Sir Edward Thomason (1769-1849) was a prominent manufacturer in Birmingham, trained by Matthew Boulton.
In 1806, Thomason registered his own hallmark at the Birmingham Assay Office (Thomason & Co).
Although he did not design the 1806 circulation coin, Thomason was later (1806-1830) one of the principal producers of medals and tokens in the style of Britannia and other national themes.
